Akita breeds tend to be more protective and loyal to their owners. The Chow Chow on the other hand is more reserved and independent. History The Japanese breed Akita were bred mainly for hunting and fighting, while the chow Chow were bred for protecting and hunting. These breeds have a long history and are both considered national treasures in their original countries. Appearance They both have thick furs, curled tails and bear look-like appearance.
